About Us

The Band of the West Midlands Fire Service is a concert and marching band with a wide and varied repertoire, providing music to suit all tastes and occasions. Band members are a mix of amateur and semi-professional musicians from across the West Midlands, led by our professional Director of Music, Pat Ryan.

The Band was formed in 1984 by a group of serving firefighters, many of whom had never handled a musical instrument before. However, they had a common goal: to make music! Initially the Band was only open to serving firefighters and their families, but after 15 successful years the number of members started to fall and the decision was made to allow members of the West Midlands community to join.

We are based at Safeside, next to West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) HQ and are proud to represent WMFS at events throughout the UK and abroad.

• Our mission is to promote the fire safety message through music.

• Our aim is to provide excellent entertainment while having fun!

Today, the Band is still thriving and has a membership of 40+ and an excellent reputation for providing audiences with high quality, engaging performances of a wide range of musical styles.

As it is sometimes difficult to fit a large number of musicians into smaller venues, the Band has formed a number of different sized ensembles which are able to provide music for a wide range of occasions.
